PORTABLE APPS CREATOR 0.972 BETA TUTORIAL

This is a brief video and written tutorial on how to build portable applications using portable apps creator version 0.972 beta.
Portable apps creator is a freeware application and open-source application that allows the user to make portable versions of most applications that they already own.

Before proceeding any further you must have -

1. - A copy of portable apps creator from uploading.com / megaupload.com

2. - software capable of opening .rar archives i.e. - winrar / 7zip / zipgenius

3. - A USB pen-drive memory stick (1gb or more recommended)

4. An application you want to make a portable version of.

STEP 1 - OPEN THE PORTABLE APPS CREATOR .RAR ARCHIVE

Inside the .rar there should be a folder called "App", a folder called "Other", a PAC compiler.exe and a ReadMe.pdf.
These are the essential working parts of the application.

I have also added a video.flv file and a shortcut file to the version this site links to at uploading.com.
The video.flv is a slideshow tutorial made by the author of this software and the shortcut icon will be exlpained in step 2.

STEP 2 - PORTABLE APPS CREATOR NEEDS AUTOIT V3 TO FUNCTION

Portable apps creator needs another freeware application, Autoit v3, to be added to your computer for Portable aps creator to function properly.
There are 3 ways of doing this -

Once you have downloaded and added autoit v3 to portable apps creator the portable apps creator will change from green to blue.

You are now ready to start using portable apps creator!!!

STEP 3 - PLUG IN YOUR USB MEMORY STICK BEFORE USING PORTABLE APPS CREATOR

Portable apps creator must find and recognise the flash drive before you start creating a portable application.
Find out and remember the letter your computer has assigned to the memory stick.

STEP 4 - TO INSTALL YOUR APPLICATION

Select the memory stick drive letter from the options on the portable apps creator start-up screen and select "next".

Use the browse button within portable aps creator to locate the installer.
The "compress the software using UPX" option is recommended but not essential.

Click "Take 1st shot".

When 1st shot is finished click "install application".
Remember to install the application onto the drive letter that has been assigned to your memory stick.

Once the application has finished installing onto your memory stick make sure the product is fully activated / unlocked before proceeding.

On the shortcut information screen use the browse button to locate the main .exe file on your memory stick to fill in the information in the "get the location of the application to run" text box.
Select the "use the icon of the application to run" option.
Use the browse button to locate the main .exe file on your memory stick to fill in the information in the "get the location for the launcher screen" text box.

Click "Next".

Click "Open / Close".
This option run the application once to allow you to configure the settings that you want then close it before continuing.

Click "Take 2nd shot".

Click "Process shots".

Click "Process application".
Sometimes an error screen will appear - don't worry about it just continue.
This can take a while depending on the size and type of the application you are making a portable application of and the processing power of you computer.

Click "done"when portable apps creator has finished.

Your ortable application will now be located in your memory stick > program files

STEP 5 - ENJOY YOUR PORTABLE APPLICATION!!!
